Summer Cricket Season Kicks Off at the Fields

After a period of essential renovation over the Easter break, the Fields are now in top condition for the summer season ahead, thanks to the tireless efforts of our General Manager, James, and groundsman Terry.

The opening weekend was blessed with perfect cricketing weather, marking the return of Sinjun Grammarians adults and colts, long-term players on our Fields.

We were delighted to host Streatham & Marlborough girls and ladies cricket teams for the very first time. And over the coming weeks, we look forward to welcoming more girls’ cricket sides from Sinjuns, supporting our vision to encourage greater participation in girls’ sports at the Fields.

Other cricketing teams and schools set to visit in the coming weeks include:

  • Chestnut Grove Academy, playing in the inaugural national state school cricket tournament the BKS Cup (Barclays Knight-Stokes Cup), where their 1st round opposition will be Merton's Rutlish School and Wandsworth's Graveney School.

  • Surrey Cricket Foundation, to help with their inclusivity programme that aims to increase engagement with diverse communities, and those from lower socio-economic groups, ensuring cricket is a sport for everyone.

  • Emanuel School‍ ‍and Alleyn’s School

  • Sinjuns CC Colts - a large and enthusiastic cohort of U5s to U8s are put through their paces learning cricket skills, while U9, U10, U11, U13 teams play both representative and friendly cricket matches each week.

And local cricket enthusiasts are also gearing up for a lively summer with adult fixtures booked for most mid-week evenings, even though two were unfortunately rained off recently.

Here’s to better weather and the summer sound of leather on willow for all!
