Did you know?
The benefits of sport and outdoor physical activity for children and young people are well established.
Regular participation supports:
Physical health and fitness
Mental well-being and resilience
Confidence, teamwork and social connection
Improved educational engagement and attainment.
Despite this, many children locally face significant barriers to being active.
Recent research shows:
In Wandsworth, nearly one quarter of Year 6 children are classified as obese
In Lambeth, 26% of children are overweight, and only 18% achieve the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity
Children experiencing multiple forms of inequality are significantly less likely to meet physical activity guidelines.
At the same time, surveys of young people consistently show that sport and fitness are among the activities they most want to do, highlighting a clear gap between aspiration and opportunity.
Our goal is to help close this gap. We plan to publish an annual Impact Report to demonstrate how we are contributing to this.
